Steven Dunn
I started studying photography 9 years ago when I was looking for a way to express myself artistically. I first took an adult education class on photography, which sparked my love for the art of photography. During the past nine years I have taken many classes and seminars on a wide variety of photographic topics. I have studied portraiture with Jay Stock, another internationally acclaimed photographer.
I specialize in fine art photography including portraiture, with an emphasis on coastal Maine and its people. One of the photographic techniques I use in my work is rear screen projection, which gives much of my work an impressionistic, painterly quality. My work has been exhibited in several international slide salons, most notably the Greater Lynn International, and the Springfield International. It has also been exhibited in several galleries, including the Penobscot Bay Gallery, the Harlow Gallery, the Chocolate Church in Bath and others.
I love the creative freedom that photography gives me. It allows me to convery my thoughts and feelings to others through the photographs that I have created. I believe that what we create shows who we are and what we think and feel. My goal is to express in my photograhs the essence of my subject as I perceive it to be, and convey to you, the viewer, the feelings the subject evokes in me.
My wife Sandra Leinonen-Dunn, who is an artist and photograher, has been the inspiration for many of my fine art portraits. Together we run a studio in our home on the Cony Road in Chelsea, Maine. My work can be viewed at the studion by appointment, or at local galleries and side walk shows.
